Sheila Brown Coccia

Sheila Elizabeth Brown, a native of New Castle, Delaware, entered Grinnell with the freshman class in the fall of 1957.  She was placed in the recently-renovated Mears Hall, an all-freshman dorm.

At the end of her freshman year, Sheila transferred to the University of Delaware in her home state.  Sheila graduated in 1961, earning  a B.S. in Education.  She took her first job at Wilmington Manor School, part of the Newcastle (Delaware) Special School District.

In 1962, Sheila married Anthony J. Coccia, and the couple moved to Wayne, Pennsylvania.  Sheila taught kindergarten in the Avondale School district, at Central Nursery School, for 34 years. After retirement from teaching, Sheila enjoyed volunteering at Face To Face charity in Germantown Philadelphia.  The Coccias had four children, Christopher, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Vincent.

A devoted wife and mother, Sheila always loved spending time with her family, including her grandchildren, traveling and working outside in her garden.
